Day 5: Presentation by Ivan Ordoñez

For the last event of the day the group had the privilege of listening to a very interesting presentation by Ivan Ordoñez. Ivan is an Agribusiness consultant and during the presentation he explained to us the basics of the Agribusieness culture in Argentina , and he discussed how there are many different factors that go into the Agribusiness business and how it is one of the most important forms of business for the Argentine economy as Agribusiness  makes up 60 percent of Argentina’s exports revenue, with one out of every 3 dollars in export revenue coming from soy beans. Ivan explained to us that agribusiness is the whole process of growing certain plants such as grains and selling and exporting them throughout a country and the world. He talked about how there are many factors that can effect the success of a countries Agribusiness such as the environment and the weather. A specific example that he used during his presentation was how if ariableland is slightly slanted, it can have a huge effect  on the harvest and overall profitablilty of the harvest if it rains heavily as all of the water will flood to one side of the field and ruin the harvest, thus losing money through the lose of crops.

Overall I feel that the class really enjoyed this presentation as the speaker had incredible presentation skills. He made the presentation very enjoyable to listen to as he was very charismatic and used many jokes to engage his audience while also using many analogies to help us better understand certain aspects of the Agriculture business. After the presentation I asked two of my classmates, Ashley and Madi, what their favorite part of the presentation was. Both of  them said that their favorite part of the presentation was how engaging and interesting Ivan was in his presentation and they said that all of the jokes and interesting facts that he included helped him stand out from the other presentations that we have had on this trip. At the end, I am sure that everyone really appreciated this presentation and everyone left knowing much more about Agribusiness than they did before.
